If management hits its targets

from IR material and Earnings Calls

What one share would be worth today and in 12, 24 and 36 months if the company does exactly what its management has promised, next to what a share costs now. Worked out from the targets management gave in its own results decks and earnings calls.

$100 → $120

Show the math

today's multiple of 12× on the group's adjusted EBITA at the June 2026 quarter's annual rate, held flat, plus a profit margin of 20% on the external cloud revenue still to come on a straight path to US$100bn by 2030. Commerce, quick commerce and the AI model losses are held where they are. Company value plus net cash, divided by an ADS count that grows with stock pay. Each figure management gave as a range is taken at its middle.

Show the math, step by step

How we got there: company value if the plan is delivered, minus debt, divided by all the shares, including the new ones they’d have to sell to pay for it.

  1. The multiple. Enterprise value today ($100 times 2421.8M ADS equivalents, including the August 2026 placing, plus bank loans, notes and converts, less cash and liquid investments) over the June 2026 quarter's adjusted EBITA of RMB27.3bn times four: 12×. Held, so none of the rise is a re-rating.
  2. The cloud. External cloud revenue ran at about US$21bn a year in the June 2026 quarter (AI revenue of RMB12.4bn was 35% of it). Reaching US$100bn by the end of 2030 on a straight line adds about US$17.6bn a year. Management gives the end point, not the path.
  3. The margin. The CEO's "over 20%" profit margin for the AI cloud business, applied to the new revenue only. The cloud segment earned 11.6% in the June 2026 quarter; its rise on the existing revenue is not counted.
  4. The rest. Held at today's level: e-commerce, quick commerce, the AI model and Qwen app losses (RMB13.9bn in the June 2026 quarter) and everything else. None of them has a number management has attached a margin to.
  5. The shares. No stock is sold and none is bought beyond the past pace. The count grows as it did in the half to 30 Jun 2026, about 1% a year, with almost no buybacks. Unvested awards and the convertible notes' ADSs are not in today's count.

  1. Tier 1 · live

A Cayman holding company that controls the China business by contract

Licensed China businesses run through VIEs held by partnership members and managers. The Pentagon listed Alibaba as a Chinese military company in Feb '26, then withdrew the list; chip export controls and an EU case against AliExpress are open.

  2. Tier 2 · stable

An 18-member partnership can take a board majority; only a 95% vote removes the right

It names four of ten directors today and can appoint more at will. Ma and Tsai never face election. The company voted the uninstructed ADSs, about 19% of shares present, for every item.

  3. Tier 2 · worsening

3.7% of the company sold without a vote, after buybacks stopped

HK$80B of new shares at HK$112.70 on 23 Aug '26, to non-US buyers only, under a 10% general mandate. US$1.0B bought back at about the same price in the year to Mar '26, none since Sep '25.

  4. Tier 2 · worsening

Ant Group: a 33% investee, the payment processor, and a fast-growing cloud customer

RMB19.1B of cloud revenue from Ant in FY2026, up 72%; related parties about 18% of cloud revenue. Alibaba paid Alipay RMB18.0B for payments.

  5. Tier 2 · stable

Over a quarter of votes against the auditor, two years running

PwC Zhong Tian, suspended and fined in China over Evergrande in 2024, kept on; 26.8% against in 2025 and 28.7% in 2026.

Where shareholders voted no

At each annual meeting shareholders vote on who sits on the board, what the executives are paid and whether the company may create more shares. These are the votes that drew the most "no"s at the last two meetings: the shares voted against (or withheld) each year, then what share of all votes cast that was. Under each one, what the vote was about and what a no means.

20252026Share 2026
Reappoint PwC Zhong TianThe auditor. Keeping the outside accounting firm that checks the company's books. This almost always passes; a sizeable no means shareholders doubt the audit or think the firm has been in place too long.3,511M3,589M28.7%
